Central Heating

Central heating installation,repairs and upgrades

Radiators, pipework, power flushing and controls, across the West Sussex coast and inland to Storrington and Petworth.

Our work

Most heating complaints are not boiler problems. They are circulation problems: radiators cold at the bottom, one room that never warms up, a system that takes an hour to get going, or a thermostat in the wrong place telling the boiler the whole house is warm because the hallway happens to be.

We diagnose the system rather than the symptom. That usually means checking flow and return temperatures across the circuit, looking at what has been added to the system over the years, and finding out whether the pump, the valves and the pipe sizing were ever right in the first place.

From there the fix might be a balance and a chemical clean, a power flush, a couple of new valves, or a full re-pipe. We will tell you which, and we will not sell you the expensive option when the cheap one solves it.

What’s included

  • Full system diagnosis including flow and return temperatures across every radiator
  • Radiator replacement, additional radiators and towel rails
  • Power flushing and chemical system cleansing with inhibitor dosing
  • Thermostatic radiator valve replacement and system balancing
  • Pump, motorised valve and cylinder thermostat replacement
  • Room thermostats, programmers, smart and zoned controls
  • Full central heating installation and system re-pipes
  • Frozen and burst condensate and heating pipework repair

What this covers

Everything that falls under central heating

  • Radiators and towel rails

Swaps, additions and relocations, including designer and vertical radiators where wall space is tight.

  • Power flushing

For systems clogged with magnetite. Radiators cold at the bottom while the top is hot is the classic symptom.

  • Heating controls

From replacing a failed programmer to full zoned or smart control. Correct control placement matters more than the brand on the box.

  • System balancing

Often the cheapest fix on the list. Getting the flow right across the circuit so the far bedroom heats as well as the hallway.

  • Full system installation

New heating throughout, correctly sized to the property rather than to a rule of thumb.

  • Pumps and valves

Circulating pumps, motorised zone valves, cylinder and room thermostats.

An agreed start date, materials ordered ahead, and the same team on site from the first day to the last.

  4. Signed off and guaranteed

Everything tested and commissioned, certificates issued, the site left clean, and your workmanship guarantee confirmed in writing.

Central Heating questions

What people ask about central heating

That is magnetite sludge settling in the bottom of the radiator, and it means the system water is dirty. Bleeding it will not help, because that is an air problem and this is not. It usually needs a power flush or a chemical cleanse, a magnetic filter fitted, and the system dosing with inhibitor afterwards.

Usually the system has never been balanced, so the radiators nearest the boiler take most of the flow. Sometimes the radiator is simply undersized for the room, and occasionally the pipework to it is partially blocked. All three are checkable in one visit.

A typical three-bedroom house with eight to ten radiators takes most of a working day. Larger systems, or badly contaminated ones, can run into a second day. We test the system water at the end and dose it with inhibitor.

They are worth it if you have an irregular schedule or you want per-room control, and much less so if you are home on a predictable pattern and your existing programmer works. A correctly positioned basic thermostat with sensible timings beats a smart one in the wrong place.

Usually yes, provided the boiler has the capacity and the pipework can be reached. We check the boiler output against the total radiator load first, because adding to a system already at its limit just makes everything lukewarm.
